Our four-year-olds learned about scissors safety and how to properly use scissors on Tuesday. Pointing the scissors away from your body and being aware of your helper hand while you cut are two of the safety features we focused on.

On Monday and Friday we introduced our students to a very basic bar graph as we talked about how we get to school. After the graphs were compete we counted each column to figure out which one had the most and which one had the least.

I challenged our students this past week to sort cars by parking them into the correct coloured garage. Many children love to sort toys while they play and this is an important early numeracy skill as well!

Car, car, can I have a ride? (hold up one finger like a person talking)
Yes sir! Yes sir! Step inside! (hold up the other hand in a fist, like the car)
Get in the car (put your finger - the person, inside your other hand - the car)
Turn on the gas (push your interlocked hands forward like you are pushing a gas pedal)
Drive away, drive away (pretend to hold a steering wheel)
But not too fast! (hold up both hands to show stop!)

We had a few transportation crafts available before the fall break. From paper plate cars to traffic lights, making crafts helps to strengthen the fine motor skills you need for important tasks such as printing as you get older.

Metis Week!
Metis Week!
Metis week was from November 10 -16th. On Monday we recognized this very important week by watching a video of three sisters dancing the Red River Jig. The students loved this video so much that some of them were eager to try jigging themselves!

There will be NO school for EIPK students next week. We are running Individualized Program Plan (IPP) and English as an Additional Language (EAL) Benchmark meetings next week instead. All parents or guardians have signed up for a meeting time. If you are unsure of what day or time your meeting is, please let me know!
