We enjoyed the second week of our colour theme this past week. It was fun to read about, paint with, and sort different colours in our classroom this week.
On Monday and Friday we read one of my favourite colour books, Pinkalicious, then we sorted different items by colour.
On Tuesday our four-year-olds listened to the story, Purple, Green and Yellow, then we explored with colour ourselves as we squish painted monsters! This was also a good opportunity to practice printing our names.
On Wednesday we listened to the story, Who Eats Orange? This book introduces students to the many different coloured foods that animals eat. Afterwards, we played a little food game with two different orange foods: cantaloupe and orange crackers. During this game, we took turns doing different things with the food such as poking it, touching it, swimming it up our arms, making it into a mustache, and even kissing it! It was very brave for some of our students to tolerate this orange food on their napkin. Other students felt ready to taste the food and most of them found that they liked it! Encouraging your child to tolerate food they don't like in their space is a big first step. Encouraging them to do things like poke or smell the food is also brave and helps build comfort when foods are new and your child is feeling unsure. Making it a little game removed the pressure and allowed the students to explore these new foods at whatever level they were comfortable with.
We celebrated Valentine's Day on Thursday. It was a fun day celebrating friendship. The students had many different Valentine's Day activities to engage in including a Valentine's Day movie, exchanging Valentine cards, making Valentine's soup in the water table, and trying a fizzing heart science experiment!
