Black Gold Teachers! Do you have lessons, projects, or ideas to contribute? Please email darren.maltais@blackgold.ca or carolyn.anderson@blackgold.ca
Students will colour their own tables based on similar properties (groups), states of matter, and label the groups and periods.
For best results - use this table!
Follow along with the video and notes include completed Bohr Diagrams for the first 18 elements.
Have a big wall space that needs some science love?
Have students select an element (print them on coloured paper if you want) and then create your own class-made periodic table to reference throughout the year.
Safety and Chemicals - Science Activity
Physical and Chemical Change - This resource allows students to explore the differences between physical and chemical change in "show" and "guide" modes. In the "show" mode, students observe the difference between physical and chemical change at the molecular level. In the "guide" mode, they determine whether a video segment demonstrates a chemical or physical change. A flip chart is also used to explain that distinctions between chemical and physical change are not "exact", that some inferences must be made, and that in many instances a decision is based only upon the information at hand. Students may record observations and inferences in a data table.

Properties of Matter - This resource explores some of the properties of matter by providing students with two pieces of unknown metal-based substances. The goal is to identify the composition of these substances through experimentation and assessment of information about conductivity, density, hardness, magnetism, and melting point.
Reaction Rates This resource presents a virtual science laboratory that allows students to explore three factors that affect reaction rates, temperature, concentration and particle size.
