Frequently Asked Questions
Where will I live?
International students will be matched with a homestay family for the duration of their stay. They will treat you like a member of their family and take care of you while you are in Canada. For more information, please see our Homestay - Information for Students page.
Can I choose what school I attend?
Students are welcome to indicate their preference for school on their application, but placement at a particular school cannot be guaranteed. Placements will depend on availability of host families and school capacity. You can see full descriptions of all of our schools on the School Profiles page.
What will I do while in Canada?
International students are expected to attend school full-time. While at school, you may choose to join clubs or extra-curricular activities such as sports. The international student program hosts events for students and their host families, like going to see a hockey game, a museum, or going for lunch as a group. Your host family may also take you to do other activities based on your interests.
What is the weather like in Canada?
During the summer months (June to September), the average temperature is between 20 to 25°C and it is often sunny. In the winter months (November - February) the average temperature is between -2 and -13°C, but can get as cold as -25°C or colder! There is also often lots of snow during the winter months. Depending on when you arrive, you may need to purchase additional winter clothing in order to be comfortable.
