My passion for drawing began after taking a perspective sketching course in middle school where I was inspired by the works of Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe and Eugene Viollett-le-Duc. I honed my eye towards architecture following a month-long trip in Europe in the summer of 2017, riding trains from Belgrade, Serbia, as far north as Stockholm, Sweden. I visited old cities like Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Hamburg, Copenhagen, and Gotland and fell in love with the unique character of each city's buildings. Upon returning, I completed a short perspective project relying on photographs I captured while in Europe.
I captured this picture of the Saint Nicholas Church in Malostranska Square, Prague, which I referenced for my first perspective project attempt. I completed two renditions: an ink on paper and a watercolor work.

I photographed this corner building on Knez Mihailova Street, a pedestrian corridor in the heart of Belgrade, Serbia, which I referenced for the following sketch and ink on paper works. Between the two works, I had gained more experience using a two-point perspective technique which significantly improved the quality and consistency in my rendering of the building.

I continued drawing in college, shifting towards scene sketches and even had to opportunity to create hand-drawn concept artwork for my senior studio planning course which were published in the final report here. In college, I experimented with less precise line work and began to working on scenes of rooms and built structures amongst plants, trees, and water.

During the summer quarter of 2023, I had the opportunity to take a two-week intensive course on sustainability in Honolulu, Hawaii. The first week consisted of remote lectures and the second week had myself, peers, and instructors in the field on Oahu, visiting cultural sites, volunteering at ecological restoration projects, and exploring the city. As a journal entry, I illustrated a taro patch and its elements as part of the ahupua’a system surrounding the Manoa Stream. Learning about the different names of each element in the lo'i and their meanings was one of my favorite parts of the course.
