Affordable and Clean Energy

Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all

Energy is central to nearly every major challenge and opportunity the world faces today. Be it for jobs, security, climate change, food production or increasing incomes, access to energy for all is essential.

Sustainable energy is opportunity – it transforms lives, economies and the planet.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is leading a Sustainable Energy for All initiative to ensure universal access to modern energy services, improve efficiency and increase use of renewable sources.

INDIA AND AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY

India is projected to be a significant contributor to the rise in global energy demand, around one-quarter of the total. According to 2013-14 figures, the total installed capacity for electricity generation in India registered a compound annual growth rate of 7%. However, as of 2015, 237 million people in India do not have access to electricity. The government’s National Solar Mission is playing an important role in the work towards renewable energy, and interventions in rural electrification and new ultra mega power projects are moving India towards achieving universal energy access.

TAIWAN AND AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY

Wunshan Senior High School is located in Kaohsiung in the southern Taiwan. However, the air quality in our city has been reported not qualified for living. Therefore, we endeavor to find other alternative clean energy. Recently, we obtain our power from Nuclear power plants, fire power plants and others. We try to find other ways to generate power to prevent the air from being polluted. However, it is an issue that some energies we seem to be clean but its manufacturing process can produce huge amount of pollution to the environment. On the other aspect of air quality, some polluted air is not from outside of our country. Therefore, we deem that the protection of the environment is not only our responsibility but the whole world's responsibility.
