In our society, gender stereotypes have been constructed, structured and perpetuate. Sharing about periods with the family or anyone else may damage the image of a 'good girl', plus the image of the family gets attached to image of the girl in the larger society. Mensuration, therefore, becomes a signal for the society to restrict, control and monitor a woman, hampering her personal education and professional growth. Lack of awareness give rise to various myths which the community members then perpetuate, leading to further isolation of girls during and around mensuration. They are not allowed to touch sour food items. There is critical need for a space between girls and their close once, where they can share their feelings ,concerns, expressions and can have open and frank discussion without being embarrassed and ashamed about the subject.
