Since decades ago, humans have been burning extensive amounts of fossil fuels, cutting heaps of trees and forest areas for their greedy purposes. As a result, the planet has started to heat up due to enormous amounts of carbon emissions.
Oceans and other water bodies cover about three-fourth part of the Earth. According to recent studies, global warming is dominantly occurring in oceans, thus raising the temperature. This is known as ocean warming. An estimated 90% of carbon-emitting gases are trapped inside the ocean.
Ocean warming has caused coral bleaching and the loss of breeding grounds for various aquatic animals. The temperature rise has led to deoxygenation in the oceans causing the extinction of marine species due to less oxygen and thus majorly affecting the ecosystem.
It will increase the vulnerability of marine species to diseases. The world will also be at loss economically due to the alteration in the supply of fish and seafood stocks. Looking at the melting glaciers, the rise in sea level will soon lead to more frequent and dangerous cyclones and hurricanes causing the loss of housing and infrastructure making people migrate from coastal regions. Climate change will also increase the content of acid present in the sea affecting aquatic animals.
To prevent ocean warming, humans should stop the mindless use of the natural resources given by mother Earth and drastically reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions we add to the air every year.
