ELEM - Summative Assessment
These categories are set so that 'assignments' are "COLLECTED ONLY". This means that you cannot enter a score in the score column BUT you do assess the outcome attached to the assignment (on either a 1-4 scale or M/NYM depending upon the subject area.
If you would like to report on the 'score' of an assignment, you may put it in the assignment comment box for individual students. When we report on the score of an assignment, on the parent portal, parents will see an overall mark for subject areas as the portal tries to 'average' all grades which is not always an accurate representation of the child's assessment.
For example, In the Parent Portal, ELA may show a "4" when in reality, the student may be a 4 on two outcomes and a 3 on another outcome. For this reason, we use 'Collected only" so that no average calculation is performed. Parents can click on the information [i] to drill down and see all the outcomes and assessment data for their child. We also encourage parents to sign up for email notifications to take them directly to the information entered.

To hide the other categories:
1. In PowerTeacher Pro, click on the Grading Tab > Categories.
2. You will see a list of categories.
3. Click on the Edit Pencil to inactivate these categories: Classwork, Project, Quiz, and Test.
4. Select the 'Inactive' box and save your changes.
5. Repeat with the other categories.
