Now, more than ever, learning experiences must not be just about mastering challenging academic content. They also must be more intentional about fostering communication, collaboration, adaptability and other skills our students need to thrive.
Kentucky’s accountability system needs to provide a more comprehensive picture of what student success means. The Kentucky Portrait of a Learner (PoL) will help do this by serving as a more balanced measure, demonstrating a student’s growth and achievement and ensuring their readiness for civic life, career or college.
Many of our GRREC districts have chosen to focus their Deeper Learning work around designing and or operationalizing a portrait of a learner. Check out some of their work below.
GRREC Deeper Learning has partnered with UK Next Gen and Envision Learning Partners to help districts develop their Portrait of a Learner. These portraits, or profiles, detail the skills and competencies that ALL learners should possess by the time they graduate. During the course of its development, school districts surveyed all stakeholders to develop detailed profiles that represent their community and its ideal graduate.
