How to use Sora

  1. On your phone, get the app and install it (see directions above). On your chromebook, go to https://soraapp.com/library/gpsct and read from there.

  2. Look for the Explore button. (On your chromebook, it is on the left.) Under the Explore button, you will see Griswold Public Schools with a drop down arrow. Click on the arrow.

  3. Click the green button that says Add a library.

  4. A new window comes up with the title Find a Library. This is where you connect to Slater Library’s collection. Type in Slater Library. BE SURE TO CLICK THE CORRECT SLATER LIBRARY! There are two; one in Griswold, CT and one in Slater, Iowa. You want the one in Griswold.

  5. Once you have the right Slater Library, click the green button that says “This is my library.”

  6. Now you can browse the electronic collections of both Griswold High School and Slater Library combined!

You can also adjust your search. If you click on the Preferences button, you can filter your book choices. “Available books” will let you see which books are available for check out now and what books are in the digital library. “Sort By” lets you pick how the books are displayed. Choose between ebooks and audiobooks using Format. The “Audience” defaults to Young Adult, which is your age group. Be sure to click APPLY when you are done.

Once you have picked out the book you want to listen to or to read as an ebook, click on the book. You will go to a page that shows details for that book. If you want to borrow it, click the blue Borrow button. The book is electronically sent to your device.

You can borrow your book for about two weeks. You can renew it if you need to. When the loan period is up, the book automatically gets returned to the library and will disappear from your device.

FREE AUDIOBOOKS all summer long! Starting in May 2022, you can access recently released Young Adult audiobooks for free through Sora's SYNC summer reading program. Every two weeks, SYNC presents two paired books from which to choose. Titles change every two weeks. Past featured authors include Tiffany Jackson, Paul Janeczko, Francisco Stork, Matt de la Pena, and others.
