Individual school counseling is an opportunity for students to spend time with Mrs. Laug one-on-one. These meetings are a chance to discuss an area of concern and work together to find a solution. Students can see the counselor to address a variety of social, emotional, and academic concerns and create a plan to help students succeed. Parents, teachers, and students can make a referral for a student to have individual meetings, and will work together with Mrs. Laug to identify a goal of individual counseling and help everyone work toward it.
You can schedule an individual meeting with Mrs. Laug by email nikki.laug@grinnell-k12.org or by completing the Counseling Referral Form.
Small groups are used when a small number of students would benefit from extra support on a specific topic. A wide variety of groups are available and offered depending on student needs. A few examples of groups are: social skills groups, anxiety groups, friendship groups, grief and loss groups, and growth mindset groups. Groups allow students to work on an issue that is important to their success, as well as give and receive support from others who share the same concern. Mrs. Laug will work with teachers and parents to identify students for small counseling groups throughout the year.
Classroom guidance lessons at Davis are delivered in each classroom once/six day cycle. Each student is involved in these lessons that teach developementally appropriate academic, social, and behavioral skills.
