The Grinnell-Newburg School Counselor's Mission is to provide a comprehensive, developmental, counseling program addressing the academic, career and social/emotional development of all students. By partnering with teachers, administrators, parents, and the entire community, as directed by the ASCA National Model, the school counseling program will help students identify their interests, abilities, and strengths, while enhancing their dependability, self-expression/control, and conflict-resolution skills along with other competencies that will remediate students’ deficits and strengthen their unique capabilities.
School counselors improve student success for ALL students by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program. The school counselor facilitates student development in the areas of academic, social and emotional learning and career development. School counseling roles include:
Teach school counseling classroom lessons
Facilitate short-term small group counseling
Provide immediate and short-term individual counseling
Provide referrals for long-term support
Collaborate with families/teachers/administrators/community for student success
Consult with parents and connect families to community resources
