WALT: Summarize a text in my own words including the important information and vocabulary.
Task: Plan and take notes on an object or creature of your choice in preparation to write an information report.
Choose a topic (either a living creature or a scientific object).
Decide on 3- 4 areas from the ideas below to research on your topic. Each one will be a paragraph in your report.
Creature - appearance, habitat, movement, diet, behaviour, adaptations, life cycle
Object - appearance, parts, functions, features, uses, value
Find at least 3 different sources of information. Sources of information could be video, internet sites, books, journal articles (I can help you find these) etc
Take notes on this scaffold here
Create a labeled diagram in google drawings to go with your chosen topic.
Be creative using the autoshapes and line tools to create your image.
Add text boxes for your labels.
Give your diagram a title
Download your diagram as a PNG image.

The diver described the creatures he found 11,000m beneath sea level as "alien-like".
Design an alien like sea creature that he may have seen during his dive using sumo paint.
Insert your creature into a google drawing and label its key features.
Give your sea creature an interesting name.

Walt: Select and use vocabulary and phrases to enable my reader to form a visual image in their mind.
Task: Write about a setting that shares similar personality traits as you. Describe your personality and setting and all the similarities you share. Design an interesting self created visual to represent your ideas also.

Choose a setting that matches your personality. Find an image of your setting to use as inspiration for your writing. Think about the activities, objects, people, smells, colors, overall feel of the place, etc. that come to mind when you think of this setting.

Create an interesting visual that illustrates all the shared qualities between you and your chosen setting. You can do this digitally or on paper.
Paper: The visual should NOT be a cut-out of a single picture from a magazine pasted onto your paper.
Digital images: Need to be self created using sumo paint/google drawing or google slide collage.
You may like to use a silhouette of yourself then include the aspects of the setting within that.
With a partner swap writing. Read your partner’s paragraph and sketch the visual image you get. Label the sketch using words your partner used. Share and compare to your partner’s visual.
Post your finished visual and your paragraph on your blog along with an explanation of the activity, the WALT and reflection on how you went with your writing.
