You will be completing the following Achievement Standards
Trigonometry (Internal, 3 Credits)
Coordinate Geometry (Internal, 2 Credits)
Networks (Internal, 2 Credits)
Statistical Inference (Internal, 4 Credits)
Investigating using Simulations (Internal, 2 Credits)
Probability (External, 4 Credits)
The course as a whole is worth 17 credits. You will have five internals to do during Terms 1, 2 and 3, and then one external exam to complete in Term 4.
It is possible to get an endorsement at Level 2 if you pass at least 4 standards that we offer on this course.
You need 14 credits in a course to get an endorsement at achieved (passing the course), merit or excellence.
If you don't pass one of the internals on your first attempt, we can offer further assessment opportunities during Term 4 study time.
This is a Level 2 Maths course. The subjects we will cover are for the Level 2 internals and external, and regardless of whether you have passed L2 NCEA or not, the learning is essential if you plan to take a maths course at Level 3.
If you are planning to leave at the end of Year 12, or sooner, and are not planning to return for Year 13, please see Mrs Halls to discuss a personalised programme.
You will need a Graphics Calculator.
A scientific one will not provide the functions you need. You definitely need a Graphics Calculator. Two examples have been provided below.
You can borrow one from the school library, like a Chromebook, if you cannot afford one. If you lose it, you will be responsible for the replacement costs.
If you wish to buy one of your own, they are available at Mighty Ape or Paperplus
You can use a scientific calculator for the first term, but you will need one of these by Term 3 at the latest, and it's a good idea to have one and get used to using it.
This course has already been reduced to account for the expectation that many of the students will be taking Trades or Gateway options this year. This maths course covers many skills that will be useful to Trades careers, as well as leaving Level 3 pathways open. While other Level 2 courses may expect you to complete over 20 credits, including multiple externals, this one has 17 credits and only 1 external exam.
This should be a managable amount of work.
If you are struggling or feel that you need to change your programme, please see Mrs Halls as soon as possible.
It is up to you to keep up with the work that is set. While you are in class, you will be expected to be working and making the best use of your time for study purposes.
All of the notes from class, including examples from the board and videos explaining and demonstrating the concept will be available for you to access on workspace, along with all of the exercises to complete and answers to check your progress.
It is expected that you should be putting in some independent revision and study time as part of your NCEA Level 2 programme, particularly when it comes to preparing for the external exam.
You can come to tutorials or homework club (afterschool on Wednesday) if you need help or support. Just let Mrs Halls know that you are coming.
Yes.
The work will be set on workspace but you will need to use your chromebook as a text book. The work will be set on screen for you to copy into your books and complete.
Yes. You will need to copy examples from the board and then work through activities that are set on workspace. Your chromebook will become your text book, you will need to copy and complete the work in your maths book.
There will occasionally be booklets provided with questions to complete directly on the paper. It is your responsibility to label these with your name and keep them safely.
