Bandsaw - US 25536 - Operate a bandsaw to produce furniture components
(closed book assessment - you need to know the information before you go into the assessment)
Assessment Requirements
Written Assessment
You must know the size of the components you are going to use as your assessment piece. (4 x legs - must have internal/external curve)
You need to attach job specification to assessment (You will be given the set one unless you create your own design, then you will need to produce your own working drawing)
You need to have selected appropriate materials (When you are choosing the materials to complete your project you must decide what is suitable or not) All projects are made of Pine. If you want to make it out of another material you mst provide your own.
You need to accurately measure and mark out components.
Practical Assessment
You will need to know how to isolate machine, check lighting, ventilation and extraction system.
Know the health & safety rules and regulations for its use within the school H&S policy.
Cut both straight and curved edges (internal & External) for your coffee table.
Evidence to be handed in with written assessment:
template for legs (and for table top if needed) All legs need to be identical so a template is the easiest way to ensure this).
accurately measured components You have a tolerance of +/- 1mm.
you using the bandsaw (for internal/external curves and straight lines) -
All joints measured and cut accurately.
Final project - at least 2 views with close ups of detailed work.
Open book assessment
Written Assessment: You need to know the following:
What components are you sanding?
What sanding belts are you using?
At least three maintenance procedures you should complete on the sanding machine.
Physical evidence
Photo's of the following:
your marking out (legs)
setting up and using the sander
Final completed project.
Practical Assessment
you must select and wear the correct PPE.
select the correct materials to complete the job (to the specifications given)
Select the correct sanding belt to complete the job correctly.
Complete safety checks on the machine.
Set up the machine so it can be used safely
Use the machine safely to correctly sand your legs.
Clean the machine when you have completed your work.
Be able to change the sanding block to the size needed for a practicale job.
