Digital Technologies

Year 9 Digital Technologies

This programme allows the students to experience various activities while building their skills in designing with code. They have access to the Micro:bit, the Sphero Rover, Ozbots, Scratch and the VR Station. Working in activity groups, students will explore the design and computer science concepts as they complete 7 guided activities. Once they are comfortable with using code functions, operators and comparators, they will design their projects using Microbits to present their ideas to a chosen audience. This will also enable them to learn team dynamics and Human Computer Interaction as they explore decomposition, pattern recognition and algorithmic design.

Year 10 Digital Technologies

In the Digital Technologies course students design a project for the school community based on providing good health and wellbeing for all. Students work independently and collaboratively to decompose problems into algorithms. They then can use these algorithms to create programs with inputs, outputs, sequence, selection using comparative and logical operators and variables of different data types, and iteration. Once they are comfortable with the computational thinking concepts students design a project to impact the wellbeing of their community.

NCEA Level 1, 2 & 3 Digital Technologies

NCEA Level 1 DT- Game Design

Using Sustainable Development Goal #11, students plan and develop digital outcomes for making Greymouth a sustainable and inclusive city. These could range from promotional games or material to educate, building ground or aerial drones for practical purposes, or Apps to collate information or inform an audience. This will include research, planning in scrums, following a two week sprint and a presentation of ideas to the stakeholders and the scrum manager. In Term 2 & 3 the digital outcome will be tested and refined through an iterative process.

NCEA Level 2 DT-developing networks

We have a 100% pure image that we promote in New Zealand. This means that we must be good stewards of our environment. This proposal requires the students to design digital outcomes to promote the inclusive and sustainable aspect of the Mawhera Kahui Ako and the collaborative projects that can be designed to promote Digital Technologies. This includes evaluating the consequence(s) using financial and non-financial information and justifying the best option for their digital outcome. The justification includes evaluating the impact of this option on the environment based on Sustainable Development Goal #11-sustainable and inclusive cities.
