Southwest CT MATHCOUNTS 2026 will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Fairfield University (1073 North Benson Road, Fairfield, CT 06824).

9:15 – 9:30 Whole Group Welcome in the Oak Room in Barone Campus Center
9:30 – 9:45 Coaches transition Mathletes to Egan School of Nursing and Health building
10:00-12:30 Competition
10:00 – 10:45 Sprint Round
11:00 – 11:30 Target Round
12:00 – 12:30 Team Round
12:30 – 1:15 Lunch
1:15 – 1:55 Guest Speaker - Scott Flansburg: The Human Calculator
2:00 – 2:30 Countdown Round
2:30 – 3:30 Award Ceremony
3:30 – 4:00 Ice Cream Truck
Round Details:
1. Sprint (40 minutes): Students work independently to solve 30 problems. Calculators are not permitted.
2. Target: Students work independently to solve 8 problems presented in 4 pairs (6 minutes per pair). Calculators are permitted.
3. Team (20 minutes): 10 problems that team members work together to solve. Calculators are permitted. Students not on a school’s official team of 4 (“Individuals”) participate in the Team Round together on an unofficial basis for fun.
4. Countdown: Fast-paced, oral competition for the top 12 individuals (based on Sprint and Target Rounds). Calculators are not permitted. Our chapter conducts an “unofficial” Countdown Round, meaning that the Countdown Round does not determine an individual’s overall rank. Separate prizes are awarded for Countdown Round winners.

Winning students from the State competition receive an all expense paid trip to the 2025 RTX MATHCOUNTS National Competition in May.
