What is MATHCOUNTS?
Mission
MATHCOUNTS provides engaging math programs to US middle school students of all ability levels to build confidence and improve attitudes about math and problem solving.
MATHCOUNTS is the premier Middle School Math competition in the United States and an amazing opportunity for students to come together and share their love of Math with one another. The MATHCOUNTS Southwest Connecticut chapter competition is an annual showcase for the knowledge, skill, speed and teamwork of the top Mathletes from middle schools throughout Southwest Connecticut. Our Chapter serves 150-200 kids and over 20 schools annually.
MATHCOUNTS participants typically remember the competition years later and often tell us that it was one of the best experiences of their middle school years. Other reasons to participate:
MATHCOUNTS is a challenging and fun way for students to boost their math skills and analytical abilities while vying for prizes and a chance to advance to the next level of competition.
MATHCOUNTS gives students an opportunity to share common interests with new friends from their own school, develop teamwork skills and meet other bright students from schools throughout Connecticut.
Participants report a sense of accomplishment from setting and working toward goals.
Coaches find the experience beneficial for numerous reasons. They have the opportunity to work with enthusiastic math students, keep their own problem-solving skills sharp, incorporate concepts and problems from coaching materials in class, develop a network of other passionate Connecticut math teachers and bring favorable recognition to their schools.
