What is the International Baccalaureate Program?
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program (DP) is a globally recognized, rigorous high school curriculum designed to develop well-rounded, independent thinkers. It emphasizes critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and a strong sense of global responsibility.
Philosophy of IB Teaching & Learning
IB is a student-centered approach to education, believing:
Students learn best through inquiry and exploration – rather than memorization, students engage in problem-solving and real-world applications.
Education should develop the whole person – IB fosters intellectual, personal, emotional, and social growth.
Students should take ownership of their learning – with a balance of structured guidance and self-directed study, IB students develop independence and responsibility.
Critical thinking and open-mindedness are key – IB encourages students to ask questions, analyze different perspectives, and form their own opinions.
🔹 Hands-on, experiential learning – IB students engage in projects, research, and discussions that promote deep understanding.
🔹 Independence & self-motivation – Like Montessori, IB requires students to manage their time and take initiative in their learning.
🔹 Inquiry-based education – Both methods focus on curiosity-driven learning rather than passive absorption of facts.
🔹 Holistic Development – IB’s Core (Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and CAS) ensures that students grow intellectually, emotionally, and socially, just as Montessori emphasizes whole-child development.
Which Students Should Take IB Courses?
It's academically rigorous. It's stimulating and inspiring, and allows students to really excel and see what they're capable of. Students finish with skills and a level of confidence that will push them forward for their whole lives.
*Please Note. Students do not have to be fully immersed in the IB diploma program. In fact, we encouraged them to take any of our IB courses for their hands-on, critical thinking teaching methods, college readiness, and added support.
How to Make the Choice?
Engaging in the IB program fosters personal growth and academic advancement within a supportive IB community environment.
By immersing in high-level coursework, IB students facilitate a seamless transition from high school to college.
The program's emphasis on critical thinking and research equips students with the necessary skills to not only comprehend the curriculum but also to grasp the underlying rationale and develop effective study strategies.
Globally Recognized – IB graduates are highly regarded by colleges and universities worldwide.
College-Ready Skills – Students gain writing, research, and analytical skills that give them an edge in higher education.
A Supportive Community – IB fosters collaboration, helping students learn from one another and work together.
IB is for any student who is willing to work hard, stay committed, and develop strong study habits. It prepares students for college by teaching time management, research skills, and resilience. With the right mindset and dedication, any student can succeed in IB, regardless of past academic labels.
IB Benefits
Do Universities and Ivy Leagues prefer AP or IB?
Students who take IB classes in high school have higher acceptance rates into ranked universities and colleges.
Created to deliver students a comprehensive education, enable geographical and cultural flexibility, and foster global awareness, the DP presents a multitude of advantages to students.
According to IB, these include:
gaining an excellent breadth and depth of knowledge
flourishing physically, intellectually, and emotionally
the opportunity to study at least two languages
excelling in traditional academic subjects
the chance to explore the nature of knowledge through the program’s unique theory of knowledge course
The benefits mentioned above aim to develop a well-rounded, worldly student who is, most importantly, ready for university.
IB courses are known for requiring a good deal of independent thinking and assigning oral presentations and original research–all characteristics of college courses.
According to one study, students are better able than their peers to cope with demanding workloads, manage their time, and meet the expectations placed on them: key skills vital to thriving in a university environment and beyond.
