What follows are questions I receive frequently from students. I compiled them on this page to benefit you. I hope it helps, but definitely feel free to reach out to me if it doesn't. There's no such thing as too much communication and I'm always happy to see students advocating for themselves.
First of all, it never hurts to send me an e-mail and let me know. Second, if you are well and you feel up to working so you don't fall behind, check the weekly agenda linked on Google Classroom. I do my best to link most materials we use at the end of the school day. I can't link everything, unfortunately, for various reasons (some stuff has to be done in the classroom, some of my materials have answer keys attached, etc.), but you will be able to find copies of missed notes and assignments in the absence bin at the back of the room when you return.
If you're not feeling well enough to work, don't worry; you get five days to make up work when you return. Unfortunately, your classes will continue moving, so you will receive more work during that time and you will have more than just my class's assignments to make up, so you will need to be proactive about catching up when you return. Reach out to me if you would like help coming up with a plan to get caught up.
For planned absences, please remember that CTC policy is that quizzes or tests be taken before the absence. Best practice is to reach out to me as soon as you know you are going to be be absent.
It sounds like you need to sign up for office hours. My office hours are every Monday and Thursday during recess. There is a clipboard at the back of the room you can use to reserve a spot. When filling it out, please be detailed in what you need help with so I can prepare some practice problems, notes, and other resources to help you.
One of two things likely happened: you forgot to put it in the turn-in bin or you did not put your name on it. I put all no name papers in the No Name, No Fame Station at the back of the room. Check there in your class period's folder. If it's there, put your name on it and put it in the turn-in bin. If it's not there, check your binder and get it in the bin as soon as possible to minimize the late points penalty you will receive. Don't forget to grab and fill out a Late Work form.
It depends on if we go over it in class. Once I present the answers in class, as I do most homework assignments the day they are due, I will no longer accept the assignment. It wouldn't be fair to your classmates who did not have the answers while they worked on it. If I have not yet gone over the assignment, you can still turn it in. Keep in mind I take off 10 points per day it is late, so get it in quickly. Additionally, you will need to fill out a Late Work Form. I will not grade any late work unless you fill out that form.
The Whitt Ticket system is my way of rewarding extra practice and thinking in class, and there are many opportunities to earn Whitt Tickets. Take advantage of those early and often. If you're asking this question, you probably waited too late.

Current assignments and activities are my priority when grading so that I can give feedback to students as soon as possible. As a result, late work goes to the bottom of my pile, so it may take some time before you see your grade updated. If more than a week has gone by since you turned in your late work and submitted the Late Work Form, feel free to ask about it. Remember, I do not grade late assignments until I receive the Late Work Form.
If you scored below an 85% on a major test, you may request a retake via e-mail. You will need to sign up for office hours to go over your test with me and perform error analysis on the questions you missed. You will also need to make up any work you failed to turn in, which will replace any NHIs with a 50. While this will not change your grade, it will allow you to retake tests, as Math Department policy is that you may not retake a test if you have an NHI on any practice. It may take more than one office hours session to complete these steps, so start the process as soon as possible. Once these steps are completed, we will arrange a time for you to retake the test. It will be a different test on the same material. Your two test grades will be averaged for a maximum score of 85%.
Quizzes may not be retaken. Fear not, though. If we take more than three quizzes in a quarter, I will drop your lowest quiz grade if you have no outstanding NHIs in the gradebook. Like with the test retake requirements, I will allow you to submit any work you failed to turn in to replace any NHI with a 50%. Again, this will not change your grade, but it will get rid of the NHIs so you can have a quiz grade dropped.
