Whitt Tix are my system for rewarding extra practice and thinking in class. They can be used for bonus points and other prizes. Read on to learn more.
Challenge Problems: A weekly challenge problem is presented at the beginning of the week. If you solve it correctly by Friday and write a small reflection about your process and solution on the back, you will receive a Whitt Ticket the following week.
Extra Practice: One opportunity for extra practice is presented each week that is worth one Whitt Ticket. This can be an extra small assignment, or it can be odds and evens when only odds or evens are required. I will communicate Whitt Ticket Extra Practice. Doing additional practice on your own is not the same and will not receive a Whitt Ticket, though practice is how we learn math, so do the practice you need, regardless.
Bonus Questions: Bonus questions on tests or quizzes may earn you Whitt Tickets if you score a 100% on the rest of the assessment and get the bonus question correct.
Parking Lot Questions: Deep thinking questions are added to the Parking Lot when they are brought up in class. These will be presented to students as Whitt Ticket opportunities. Research or discover an answer, and write it down and bring it in the following day for a Whitt Ticket.
Early Finishers: Early Finisher activities (generally math puzzles or art) are worth one Whitt Ticket. These will be presented to the class as they are added.
Test Review Games: If you or your team win a test review game in class, you will win a Whitt Ticket.
Cross-Curricular Opportunities: You can earn Whitt Tickets by applying math you learn to projects in Science, Social Studies, English, and Spanish. Let me know when you do this so I can discuss it with your other teacher, and you will earn a Whitt Ticket.
Quizzes: One Whitt Ticket may be traded for one bonus point on a quiz, and you may earn up to five bonus points on any one quiz to bring your grade up to a 99%. You will need to bring your physical quiz to me to apply Whitt Tickets. If there was a bonus question on the quiz that you earned, that will affect how many bonus points you can trade with Whitt Tickets. For example, if a bonus question was worth two points and you earned that bonus, you may only apply three Whitt Tickets to that quiz since two bonus points are already applied.
Tests: Two Whitt Tickets may be traded for one bonus point on a test. Note that these points are more expensive than bonus points on quizzes, but that should make sense, because tests weigh more. Like quizzes, you can only earn up to five bonus points on any one test and your grade cannot go over 99%. This means, like with quizzes, if you earn any bonus points on a test, it will affect how many Whitt Tickets you can apply to that test. No more than 5 points of bonus can be applied to any assessment, period, regardless of how those bonus points are earned.
Activities: One Whitt Ticket may be traded for two bonus points on any activity grade. Like with quizzes and tests, only five bonus points may be applied to any assignment and your assignment may not go over 99%.
Raffle: At the end of each quarter, we will have a Whitt Ticket Day in which prizes will be raffled off. Throw any unused Whitt Tickets into the raffle. Any student who has earned a Whitt Ticket at any point in the quarter will get candy on Whitt Ticket Day just for playing the game and going the extra mile at some point in the quarter.
Whitt Tickets must be used the quarter they are earned. Each quarter, the color of Whitt Tickets will change.
You may only use Whitt Tickets you personally earn. You may not give your Whitt Tickets away to other students.
You are responsible for keeping up with your Whitt Tickets. I have seen students have success keeping them in their name badge pockets on their lanyards. I will not replace lost Whitt Tickets.
