Students have a variety of courses to select from all subject areas including College Prep, Honors, Advanced Placement, Early College (Dual Credit) and International Baccalaureate. Each level of course weighs differently in a students GPA. The SC Uniform Grading Scale can be found with the following link. SC SDE 10 Point Grading Scale.
Students meet with a counselor each year to review their teachers' recommendations and choose their electives. Typically we start these meetings in February and continue through March. All courses offered at TR High School, specific to each subject matter, can be reviewed with the following link. Travelers Rest High School Course Catalog
Students may also apply to attend Enoree Career Center, CTE Innovation Center or the Fine Arts Center. These programs can be reviewed on the Special Focus Centers tab.
The TRHS Counseling Team partners with students and teachers to ensure every graduate has multiple opportunities to earn College and Career Readiness (CCR). Our goal each year is for 100% of TRHS graduates to earn CCR. Students can earn College and Career Readiness in a variety of ways, including qualifying test scores, earning college credits, participating in internships or work-based learning experiences, and completing career pathways and industry certifications. Students who have CCR are rewarded several times throughout the school year.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program is a rigorous, comprehensive two-year diploma program with a prescribed set of courses and core requirements. At the end of the second year, students take exams in each subject, which may allow them to earn college credit.
Students may choose to enroll in a full IB course load or take select IB classes as partial IB students. TRHS is one of only four Greenville County Schools that offer the International Baccalaureate Program.
For more information, please contact our IB Coordinator, Ms. Mariani, at 864-355-0071 or speak with your school counselor.
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are individual, semester-long classes that conclude with externally scored exams. These rigorous courses are designed to prepare students for the expectations of a college-level academic environment. While AP offerings at TRHS vary from year to year, we typically offer AP courses in English, History, and Art every year.
Early College allows students to take college courses while in high school. Students who are enrolled in high school and enrolled in one or more college classes are participating in "dual enrollment" and may earn college credits while they are still enrolled in high school. In a lot of cases, the college credits students earn through a dual-enrollment experience can be used to satisfy high school graduation requirements as well, which is referred to as "dual credit."
Travelers Rest High offers dual-credit courses in partnership with GTC. In some cases, students take dual-credit courses online or on a GTC campus, alongside regular college students. We also offer several classes on our campus here at TRHS. Sometimes our teachers teach the classes on our campus, and sometimes a GTC instructor comes to teach these classes. The course selection differs year to year.
For the 25-26 school year, we offer the following GTC courses on campus at TRHS:
ENG 101, ENG 102, SOC 101, PSY 201, SPC 205 (Public Speaking)
Eligibility Requirements: 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale AND 80 or above in last 2 English / Math courses OR Accuplacer test at GTC
The SAT and ACT are nationally recognized college entrance exams that are equally accepted by colleges and universities for admission. Juniors (third-year students) and seniors (fourth-year students) have the opportunity to take either the SAT or ACT at school at no cost by signing up in the fall. Students will then take their selected exam in the spring. If a student chooses to retake the SAT or ACT outside of the school testing opportunity, they may register on their own at www.collegeboard.org or www.actstudent.com.
Sophomores are given the opportunity to sign up for the PSAT in the fall to practice for the SAT/ACT. Sign ups will start in September. Juniors can pay $18 to take the PSAT if they want to take it for extra practice and to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship.
