RULES FOR BEHAVIOR
A. ATTENDANCE AND TARDY POLICIES
Students are required to attend each therapy session on time, unless the student’s class is involved in a special assembly or activity. Speech/Language Pathologists (SLPs) keep attendance records and inform parents in the quarterly progress report if there is a problem with attendance.
B. RULES FOR STUDENT BEHAVIOR
All students are expected to follow the school rules while coming to, leaving and during the speech/language therapy sessions. In addition, the SLP outlined expectations for participation in therapy groups. All rules are designed to acknowledge and reinforce positive behavior.
In elementary school, rules are usually posted in the therapy room. Typical rules may include:
1. Be respectful of others
2. Listen attentively when others are speaking
3. Follow directions
4. Keep hands, feet and other objects to yourself
5. Treat others as you would like to be treated
6. Always do your best
C. CONSEQUENCES, BEHAVIOR CONTRACTS AND REWARD SYSTEMS
If a student is not following directions, they will have a picture reminder to correct behavior. If they continue the behavior they will have a smiley faced removed.
Your child has the opportunity to earn 3 smiley faces on their prize sheet.
They get 1 stamp for bringing folder, homework signed and good behavior.
NON-INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES
Bathroom: Students must ask permission to use the bathroom. School procedures are followed.
Entering the speech room: Students enter the room quietly, pick up folders as needed and sit down appropriately.
Exiting: Students clean up and put folders back. They return to their classroom without distracting other students.
Drills: Students follow school procedures.
PRESENTATION OF RULES AND PROCEDURES
During the first week of therapy, all rules, consequences and procedures are reviewed with the students. Rules are taught and reviewed as needed throughout the year. Pertinent rules are posted as appropriate in the therapy room.
