I was born in Simpsonville, but grew up above Asheville, NC. I played college baseball from 2003-2004 at Gardner-Webb University before giving it up due to an illness. I finished my Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science at Lander University in 2010, where I also began coaching baseball. I received my Master of Arts degree in Kinesiology and Sport Studies from East Tennessee State University, while serving as an assistant baseball coach. In 2013 we won the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, the school’s first conference championship since 1981. We then played in the Vanderbilt Regional of the College World Series. I served as head baseball coach at North Buncombe High School in Weaverville, NC from 2014-2016 and department chair of the Physical Education department from 2015-2016. I am a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) and a Registered Strength & Conditioning Coach (RSCC) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). I have been at Greer for 10 years and have served as the Head Baseball Coach (2017-2019) and the Director of Speed & Strength at Greer High for the past 8 years. I love to help athletes increase their athletic performance ceiling by-way of strength and conditioning aspects and love learning new things. I enjoy being in the weight room and reading about new (and old) strength and conditioning techniques. When not lifting, you can find me wetting a line, in a dove field, or in a deer stand somewhere. In 2020 we started our Iron Jackets Powerlifting Club. We have numerous SC State Record holders and Michael Huff ('22) became Greer High School's first State Champion in powerlifting. In 2024, Jewel Brantley became the first female State Champion at the Female State Strength Meet. My wife, Carla, and I have been married for 17 years. She ran track and Cross Country at Appalachian State. We have a 7 year old (Declan) and a 3 year old (Callum). Watch out for them in the 2036 and 2040 Olympic Games or some sort of Strongman Event!
