Voice

Voice disorders affect the tone, quality, or resonance of a child's voice. Some voice problems are caused by poor vocal hygeine habits. Others are a result of structural differences or damage in the nervous system, mouth, larynx, nasal cavity, or palate. If you suspect that your child may have a voice disorder, it is a good idea to talk about your concerns with your pediatrician or with an Ear/Nose/Throat doctor.

Helpful Tip

Good vocal hygeine includes: drinking plenty of water, reducing unnecessary coughing or throat clearing, and allowing time for vocal rest after vocal stress (e.g., yelling at a sporting event, singing in a concert, etc).
