(Stuttering)

Fluency

Stuttering affects many students and can be very difficult to understand and improve. Fluency disorders may affect your child's ability to effectively communicate with peers and adults. In addition, stuttering may affect a student's self-esteem or willingness to participate.

Helpful Tip

Be very patient with a child who stutters; do not try to complete words or sentences for them. Word choice and sentence structure can affect our meanings and intentions. Allow children who stutter to communicate independently in order to ensure that their meaning is genuine and clear. Every child deserves the same opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas.
