Hi! This is my seventh year teaching at Greer High School. Over the course of the year, I will be teaching Engineering Essentials, Introduction to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering Honors and Digital Electronics Honors. In the past, I have also taught Algebra 1 and 2.
I am originally from Gastonia, North Carolina. I love the outdoors, sports and music. When I was in high school, I played basketball, softball and played trumpet and mellophone in the marching band. I was selected for Governor's School in NC for instrumental music (french horn) the summer before my senior year.
I attended NC State University in Raleigh. (Go pack!) While I was there, I enjoyed being a part of the NC State marching band. I graduated with a BS in Textile Engineering. At the time, only one other school in the country offered this specialized blend of mechanical engineering with textile application.
Upon graduation, I was hired by the Burlington House Division of Burlington Industries as a production management trainee. I worked as a 2nd shift weave room supervisor before being promoted to plant quality engineer. I have worked in quality at weaving, dyeing/finishing and cut/sew operations. After extensive training, I was assigned to corporate offices as a Process Improvement Leader.
Next, I joined Levolor Kirsch Window Fashions as a plant process engineer over the textile area. (This has been my favorite job to date!) Not long after, I was promoted to corporate office as a Supplier Quality Engineer. In this position, I completed training for my Six Sigma Black Belt and learned Lean Manufacturing principles. After that, I started working as a New Product Development Engineer. In order to provide product support, I traveled frequently to Salt Lake City, Aqua Prieta and Esqueda, Mexico.
Upon moving to SC, I began work as a New Product Development Engineer for Glen Raven in Anderson. My product line was indoor and outdoor upholstery. Under one roof, our plant received fiber and shipped out finished fabric.
For over a year, I served as a substitute teacher, primarily at Chandler Creek Elementary, Greer Middle School and in band/strings at Sevier Middle School. I determined that I love being in the classroom and getting to know your children. So, I took a leap of faith.
And landed in #thehive.
I have always had a desire to teach; I am grateful to be a part of the CTE team and pursue this next adventure.
I live in Greer with my husband and our two boys. Whenever I can, I still love to play the french horn.
