Expectations

Our classroom is a safe, structured, and supportive environment where every student is encouraged to learn, participate, and succeed. We teach clear and consistent expectations while recognizing that each student may need different levels of support. Teachers and staff provide modeling, visual supports, reminders, positive reinforcement, and calm redirection to help students develop appropriate behaviors and greater independence.

💙 Be Respectful
We use kind words, gentle actions, and respectful behavior toward teachers, classmates, and classroom materials. Adults model appropriate behavior and provide reminders and support as students practice these skills.

👂 Follow Directions
We listen to teachers and staff and follow directions as best we can. Instructions may be broken into small steps, paired with visual cues, or repeated with individualized prompts to help students understand and participate successfully.

🙌 Keep Hands & Feet to Yourself
We respect personal space and keep our hands and feet to ourselves to help everyone stay safe. Staff provide support, reminders, and redirection when students need help maintaining safe interactions.

🧩 Use Materials Appropriately
We use classroom materials, toys, and equipment safely and appropriately. Adults model how to use materials and provide verbal or visual reminders when additional support is needed.

📍 Stay in Your Area
We remain in our assigned area unless we are given permission or directed to move. Visual supports, reminders, and transition cues help students understand where they should be and where they are going next.

⭐ Try Your Best
We encourage every student to participate, make an effort, and celebrate their progress. Teachers provide encouragement, positive reinforcement, and individualized support to help each student experience success.

🤝 How We Support Our Students

Adults play an important role in helping students understand and meet classroom expectations. We use consistent routines, positive reinforcement, visual supports, schedules, modeling, prompts, and calm redirection to teach appropriate behaviors and encourage independence.

When redirection is needed, we respond calmly, respectfully, and positively, helping students understand expectations, make safe choices, and learn skills they can use throughout the school day.

Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), when applicable, always take priority when determining individualized expectations, supports, accommodations, and behavior strategies for each student.
