Education Practicum
This class is a Dual-Enrollment Education Practicum Course where you will learn about the foundations of education and teaching practices. You will complete a minimum 60-hour practicum in a local school working with a teacher in the field.
You will be responsible for completing assignments for Clemson University graded by me. Please refer to the syllabus for all of your assignments and due dates. You MUST READ the syllabus before class begins. Assignments and grades will all be posted in our Google Classroom.
Our class will meet (in person or Google Meet) each Monday where we will have professional development meetings and educational experts as special speakers. Beginning on Tuesday, January 24, students will work in a local classroom Tuesday - Friday every week.

School Board Meetings:
Your assignment is to attend a GCSD school board meeting AND to send an email to a member of the school board expressing a concern you have about education or to share a positive experience you have preparing to become an educator.
I will provide you with the information of the district’s meetings, times, and locations. To verify your attendance, you must take a photo of yourself inside the board room to account for your attendance. As you attend the meeting, please take appropriate notes and answer the following:
Give the name district meeting attended: location, date, time, & length of meeting
How many boards members attended? Approximately how many people were in the audience?
Give a short description of two issues that were discussed and how they were (or were not) resolved.
Was public input allowed and/or given? What was the result?
Based upon your observations during the meeting, give a short description of one of the responsibilities of school board members.
Describe something that happened or that was discussed that you did not expect; or an enlightening moment you had during the meeting.
Summarize what you learned from this experience of attending a school board meeting.
Regular meetings of the Board of Trustees are held the fourth Tuesday of each month, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Central Office (301 E. Camperdown Way | Directions)
Educational Magazines
You will subscribed to an educational magazine “Education Weekly," “Edutopia,” "Teaching Tolerance", etc. You will access and analyze an 10 articles over the course of the semester. As you have analyzed the articles of your choosing, you must submit reflections on your Google Classroom.
