The Sunken Cities - Abu Qir Bay
It's believed these cities near Alexandria sank into the Bay sometime between 600-700 AD, due to earthquakes, tsunamis, and unstable soil.
This current building was completed in the 1800s, but the institution is likely over 1100 years old. A treasure of secular and sacred manuscripts were discovered in a storeroom in the 19th century.
Still home to a group of monks, this monastery contains a stunning church dating back over 1500 years.
