Working from Home Without Wifi*

Watch the video on how to work off-line if you do not have WiFi at home.

If you have further questions you can click HERE or scroll and read below.

If you still have questions please see Mr. Irvin or Mrs. Webb.

By checking offline syncing in your Google Drive settings, you can access most of your work, edit documents, and create new ones. See the directions below on how to change your settings to allow you access to your files without Internet access.

Please note that you will need to be connected to wifi in order to enable the changes to your Google Drive settings

Access your Google Drive at school in order to change your settings. Select the settings spiked circle located in the top right corner of your Google Drive.

Once you select Settings, a window will appear that features several Google Drive Settings options.

Check the box next to Offline - Sync your work to this computer so that you can edit offline.

You now should be able to create or edit Google Documents, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings. You will need to create a new doc, slide, etc. while you are still at school and connected to wifi in order to access it at home.

Some features may not work offline (such as adding images). The majority of the Google Apps will, however, function the same with offline sync settings enabled as they do while working with a wifi connection.

One a student connects with wifi, any edits made while working offline will sync and update in the student's Google Drive.

Accessing Google Drive Without Wifi

Rather than access the Google Chrome icon on your desktop, you will need to select Google Drive from your Chromebook Launcher Box. See the images below on how to locate the Google Drive icon and access Drive.

Students may want to search and add apps from the Chrome Web Store that work offline. Filter your search results for apps and extensions that work without Internet access by checking Runs Offline under Features

One Chrome Extension that would be helpful for students conducting research is Pocket. Students will need to add this Extension while online and create an account at the Pocket website. Using this Google Chrome extension, students can save websites, articles, online videos, etc for offline viewing.

*Students may want to check with local public libraries and ask about free wifi access for local students.
