Ms Primus-Brown
6th Grade Assistant Principal
6th Grade Assistant Principal
Hello! I’m Ms. Deborah Primus-Brown, but the students here at Hughes call me Ms. Brown. I’m excited to serve another year as your 6th Grade Assistant Principal at Hughes Academy of Science and Technology.
Hughes has been home to me for many years. I taught math for 28 years, including 16 right here at Hughes. After a two-year position as a Math Interventionist at Tanglewood Middle, I returned to Hughes as the 6th grade AP—and this is now my third year in that role.
Even though I'm no longer a classroom teacher, I still love to "grab the pen" and do a little math when I get the chance! I’m so thankful for our incredible teachers who welcome me into their classrooms and allow me to stay connected to the subject I love.
This is my 31st year in education, and I’ve had the pleasure of teaching and leading across the Lowcountry, Midlands, and Upstate of South Carolina. Over the years, I’ve learned that clear expectations and accountability lead to student success. I encourage our students to look for solutions—not excuses—and to always give their best effort.
Outside of school, I love giving back through local, state, and national service projects that help meet the needs of others. I’m also a proud mom of two amazing kids—Kieria and Mason—and one of them is a student here at Hughes!
I’m honored to be part of your child’s middle school journey and can’t wait to see all the growth and success this year will bring!
