The AVID related arts class is a mix of career education, college prep, and teen leadership that helps students build agency.
We prioritize learning through WICOR strategies & educating students about their options after high school. Regardless if trade school, college, or the military is most efficient for their career path, we just want to see our students succeed after high school.
Pillars of our engaged learning are focused note taking, calendars & agendas in binders, tutorial days, and field trips. This leads to improvements in life habits instead of just completing assignments, and experience linked education.
AVID's main priority is to prepare students for their future career and the matching education path it requires. For many this is college but not the only option.
The focus to accomplish this is student agency. We prioritize the students' ability to problem solve and fulfill their potential. We equip students with the tools to accomplish goals on their own, or advocate for themselves properly.

I can’t tell a student what they want to be someday. In that sense I have no expectations for what career you want someday. However, I have high standards that we are going to take your future seriously. This includes participating in all the activities we use to narrow down, or grow students' list of career interests. So I will have high standards for our work ethic in class, no matter how the year unfolds. We've got this!
If a student loves cleaning and wants to be a janitor then I want to empower their passion into action. Encourage them to seize the steps they can take during middle school to become head of white house operations or run their own cleaning business.
