Course Description:   Visual Arts 4 Honors.

ART SYLLABUS

*Visual Art 4 Honors is designed as a more in depth study of all the areas covered in the students previous art classes.  Students will be expected to apply skills and knowledge gained in previous classes.

 Objectives: In this class the student will build upon what they learned in all of their previous Art classes.  They will learn to think creatively using the basic elements and principles of art.  The student will apply this knowledge using various materials in producing their own art work.  The student will also learn the importance of art and the artist of the past as well as the role it plays in the world around them.  The student will create there own works of Art.  They will discuss an idea with the teacher for approval.  If the teacher approves of their idea they will then work out approaches, techniques, materials and time frame.  The teacher will assist the student in successfully completing the when necessary within the agreed upon parameters.

Standards: 1- The student will demonstrate competence in the use of ideas, materials, techniques, and processes in the creation of works of visual art.  2- The student will use composition and the elements and principles of design to communicate ideas.  3- The student will examine the content of works of visual art and use elements from them in creating his or her own works.  4- The student will understand the visual arts in relation to history and world cultures and the technologies, tools, and materials used by artists.  5- The student will analyze and assess the characteristics and qualities of his or her own works of visual art and those of others.  6- The student will make connections between the visual arts and other arts disciplines, other content areas, and the world.

Assessments: Assessments are mostly project based, however, there will weekly grades for bell assignments as well as periodic sketchbook and progress checks.

* Projects are graded on meeting requirements, creativity, personal effort and craftsmanship. (in that order)

Grading policy:  60% major assessments(projects),  30% minor assessments (written assignments and drawing exercises) and 10% homework and progress checks (includes Bell Assignments and sketchbook checks

A=90 - 100

B=80 - 89

C=70 - 79

D= 60 - 69

Attendance Policy:

Absences in High School are accrued per course.  Any absence in excess of 5 may cause the student to lose credit for this semester course. Absences that are medical (doctor notes), bereavement, and/or Principal Approved are not included in the maximum absences.

Greer High students must be present a minimum of 45 minutes to be counted present.

Greer High School Makeup Policy

 At a minimum, students may receive up to 75% on minor assignments turned in 1 day late. 

At a minimum, students may receive up to 50% on minor assignments turned in 2 days late. 

This policy does not apply to students who are absent for instruction. When considering absences, teachers will assign a reasonable amount of time for students to make up assignments that does not exceed 5 days.

Academic Policies and Procedures:  Assignments should be submitted on the given due date.  Late work due to absence should be turned in within 5 days of student’s return.

Classroom Routine:

    1.Enter class quietly, take out materials and sit at assigned seats.

    2.The bell assignment is to be completed in the minutes before the tardy bell and         

       the first five minutes of class.

    3.The teacher will present the lesson beginning  with lecture and demonstration  

        and followed by studio time.

    4.After studio time the students will clean work stations and put away materials.

    5.The teacher will dismiss students at the end of class.
