I attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio, graduated May of 2000. There I obtained a bachelor's degree in Art Education along with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.
My first teaching experience was in Gastonia, North Carolina. There I taught 4th grade science and reading. The second year of teaching I was in the same town, but in two new schools. I taught elementary art, K-5, in both schools. I then taught fourteen years of middle school art classes at Mauldin Middle School. I feel very much connected to and enjoy working with middle schoolers. This year is my tenth year at Hughes Academy!
I try to attend as many workshops and in-services as possible in order to acquire interesting lessons and art project ideas. I plan intriguing lessons in drawing, painting, and sculpture. In the fine arts, I think the older students strive, learn, and gain more through independent work. The students will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of different media. They will also be exposed to some art history, as well as ART careers.
