Communication/Behavior Folders
Each day your student will bring home a black folder. Inside you will find a blank behavior calendar that I will fill out daily. In most cases, I will only note what we worked on that day in the color that corresponds with the students behavior. You do not need to sign the folder and you too are welcome to use the folder to send communications to me as well. If at any time the student’s behavior impedes their learning or the learning of others I will be more specific in my comments. If needed, I will send an email home with even more detail. If you would like to discuss a particular day’s events further please let me know and we can set up a time for a phone call and/or a virtual or in-person meeting.
Students will be held accountable for their behavior using the consequences pictured. You will notice that the colors correspond to the colors on the behavior chart sent home daily.
Curriculum, Pacing, and Grades
Reading & Math
Greenville County Schools uses the Reading Horizons program for students receiving direct reading instruction and Reveal for students receiving direct math instruction to provide specialized tiered support for the general education curriculum.
Grades
Students work towards mastery and are given the opportunity to remediate as necessary at their own pace. For this reason, students do not receive grades for work completed within the resource classroom. Therefore, the grade your student receives in reading and/or math on their report card will be the grade that they have earned in their general education classroom while completing grade-level curriculum with the accommodations and modifications listed in their Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Behavior
Greenville County Schools uses the Zones of Regulation program for students receiving direct behavior instruction within the Resource classroom. Students will also work on other aspects of social emotional learning.
Progress Monitoring
Students who receive services within the Resource classroom will have their IEP goals progress monitored on a bi-weekly basis. Progress monitoring takes place on Fridays and is broken up according to skills/goals being assessed. Parents will receive progress reports each quarter.
Mrs. McCarty has afternoon Bus Duty daily from 2:15 pm to 2:30 pm. Breakfast duty in the cafeteria on Thursday mornings from 7:00 am to 7:30 am and Front Hall duty on Friday mornings from 7:00 am to 7:45 am.
