This year we are starting a Walking Club through the inspiration of Travis Lutheran, Special Olympics Athlete and Program Associate of SC Special Olympics. Travis has started walking clubs all over South Carolina to encourage others to take charge of their health and establish healthy habits. Struggling with his weight and medical issues, Travis asked Anthony Buzzetti (Director of Community Outreach SC SO) for help. In January of 2022 they began walking. Two and a half years later, Travis has lost 88 lbs and no longer has to take medication. On August 27th at 8:00 am, Travis and Anthony are coming to Northwest to kick off our Walking Club and we are so excited. Follow Travis on Instagram. Special Olympics SC Walk this Way
Every year, Project Unify sells concessions for our Community Trunk or Treat. Proceeds help us with field trip expenses.
Every year, we gather together with schools around the Upstate to join in Youth Leadership to bring student leaders together of all abilities allowing them to connect and feel empowered.
With a series of signature events throughout December, the 40th annual Festival of Trees will bring the 2024 holiday season to life in Greenville. Spectacularly decorated trees line the entrance way of four hotels in downtown Greenville, giving visitors and community members the chance to experience the magic of the holidays.
Each year our class is involved by making ornaments and decorating a tree for the Festival of Trees. Last year we partnered with the Art I class and our Project Unify club to make beautiful ornaments and attend the Festival of Trees and go ice skating. We look forward to attending again this year.
In February, we lead a Unified Spirt Week which is dedicated to spreading the message of inclusion to Unified Champion Schools and Special Olympics programs.
During Spirit week, we had a Valentine's dance. All of our fundraising efforts help with Special Olympics and other field trips.
Our United Spirit Week helped us to raise money for the Polar Plunge. We raised over $3800, half of which went towards our school and half went towards our local Special Olympics at Furman. Students, teachers, athletes, Unified Partners plunged in an icy pool at the Marriott. 2025 plunge will be held at Otter Creek in Travelers Rest!
In March, we traveled to Woodmont High School for a Unified Basketball tournament to be fans in the stands cheering on the players. It was awesome to be a part of these schools coming together to include our athletes in a sporting event.
Every spring we look forward to attending the Special Olympics Spring Games. Our Athletes and Partners look forward to these games all year!
