The 2025-2026 school year will mark my twenty first year at Northwest, the best middle school in the Upstate. This also marks the beginning of my 26th year of teaching. I graduated from Brenau University in Gainesville, GA in December 1999 with a BS in Special Education, certified in Intellectual and Learning Disabilities, earned my master’s degree from Lesley University in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Integrated Teaching through the Arts. This past year I am honored to be chosen the Teacher of the Year for Northwest and one of the Top Ten Teachers of the Year for Greenville County.
Our family moved here the summer of 2004 from the Atlanta area. I decided to pursue my degree in special education after working with at risk students at the high school level. I love the challenge of helping kids connect the dots and seeing the light come on! I began teaching in the elementary setting and transferred back to the high school level. After teaching high school for four years, I moved to Travelers Rest and began my middle school teaching career.
I grew up in Southeast Georgia, in a small town called Rocky Ford on a farm in Screven County. I'll always be a country girl at heart. I lived in Washington, DC for two years where my oldest daughter was born. I also lived in Germany, near Cologne, for three years. My youngest daughter was born in Heerlen, Holland.
I am blessed to have two lovely daughters, ages 34 and 37, who are happily married to two wonderful guys named Kevin. I am blessed to be a Grammi, to my granddaughter Isabella who turned 8 years old in March. I am also blessed to be married to my best friend, Jon!
Besides spending time with my family, I love gardening, reading, researching, crafting, sewing, walking, bee keeping, tending to my chickens, and enjoying nature.
