Explanation of Services:
Students who receive support services have met criteria as a student with a disability under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). Students receive services through a variety of disability classifications and for academic and behavior instruction. The student’s disability has negatively affected their progress in the regular education curriculum and they require additional academic or behavioral support to make adequate progress. Through the implementation of direct instruction in the general education setting through the inclusion model and accommodations in their regular classroom, students can succeed.
Each student that receives special education services has a legal document called an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) in which individual goals are written for each student based on their academic and behavior present levels of performance. While our goal in special education is to provide students with on-grade level instruction often we are working on mastering lower level skills.
Calculation of Grades:
Mastery of IEP goals are measured through formal and informal assessments. Progress reports are sent home every 4 ½ weeks according to the district schedule.
Homework Policy:
Resource provides academic support for the regular education curriculum; therefore, no homework is given.
Communication:
At various times, I may contact you to set up an IEP meeting through phone, in person, via email, and/or letter. The IEP team consisting of the regular educator, special educator, an administrator, parent and speech and/or Occupational therapist must be present at the IEP meeting to create a yearly IEP or make changes to the current plan.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact me using the provided information. If you reach out via phone or email, my policy is to return your message within 2 school days.
Inclusion Model:
For some classes, I will be will be working with students in the regular education classroom through the inclusion model. I can provide direct instruction without pulling students out of the classroom. Their regular education teacher and I collaborate to integrate their grade level standards and their resource goals.
