Mrs. Akers

This is my second year at Monarch Elementary, but my 24th year of teaching. I started teaching way back in 2000 in Prince William County, Virginia. I taught in 3 different schools and in 3 different grades - 3rd through 5th.  In 2021, we decided to head south and landed in Simpsonville and close to my big brother and his family.  I taught 5th grade at Oakview Elementary, but after only knowing Virginia as their home, my own kids had a bit of a tough transition. While I love teaching, I made the decision to not work full time to support their transition. You might have seen me at Lowes Foods (5 Forks or Pelham) in the Cakery during this time and I might have even decorated your cake! My former manager is still trying to convince me to come back for holidays and the summer 😅!

Now that all 3 of our kids are thriving here in SC, I am back in the classroom! Our eldest, Jackson, is a senior at Mauldin High and loves history and technology. Our middle child, Matthew, is also at Mauldin as a freshman and is constantly on the move with lacrosse on Mauldin's and Team Carolina's (elite travel club) teams. Our youngest, Gwen, can be seen walking the halls of Monarch with us in 4th grade. She loves all animals, drawing,  and being a soccer goalie. My husband, Amos, is a fireman for the North Spartanburg Fire Department. We also rescued our black cat, Oliver, last year so there is never a dull moment in the Akers' household!

I am so excited to be here at Monarch! I can't wait to get to know you and your family!
