Chromebooks that are broken or fail to work properly must be taken to Mrs. Craig in the Media Center during Repair hours (8:00-8:45 and the first 30 minutes of each block) and no later than 48 hours after the damage occurs. Failure to do so can result in the student being charged for the repair.

Many issues with Chromebooks can be resolved with simple troubleshooting steps. Students and parents can refer to the Chromebook Troubleshooting Guide for a list of suggestions and simple steps that will resolve the majority of issues not relating to damage.

Students should report missing or lost Chromebooks to Mrs. Craig in the Media Center as soon as it is discovered lost or stolen. You will have to fill out a Missing Chromebook Form. If the Chromebook has been stolen, the missing Chromebook form must be turned in to Mrs. Craig in the media center during repair hours with a police report within 48 hours of the incident. Failure to do so will result in the student being charged for the computer. You can print this out and fill it out ahead of time to expedite the process. Failure to follow these procedures will result in the full replacement cost of the Chromebook being assessed to the student.

If a technology fee is charged during the school year, it does not cover the cost of replacing a missing or lost Chromebook or Chromebook charger. Students who are issued a replacement will be responsible for paying Mauldin High School up to $300 of the Chromebook replacement cost and approximately $32.00 charger replacement cost prior to receiving a replacement.

Can I print from my Chromebook?
Can I print from my Chromebook?
Yes. Students will be able to print from their Chromebooks to the Media Center printers. The default printer for black/white prints is the Media01 printer. For color printing, students should select Media02. Every student will receive 20 prints total per month which can be used for both options of color and black/white printing. Black/White use 1 copy and color printing uses 2.

Students also will have the option to purchase additional prints (which can be used for both black/white printing and color). The charge for adding additional prints to a student account is $0.10 per copy. Our school printers are for educational use only.

Can home printers be used for Chromebook printing?

If your printer is connected to your WiFi network and supports the Google CloudPrint protocol, you should be able to print from your Chromebook to your home printer. Unfortunately, connecting your printer via a USB cable to your Chromebook will not work. Chromebooks print wirelessly.

How can students submit work or assignments via their devices?
How can students submit work or assignments via their devices?
Google Drive has features built into it that allow work to be “shared” between teachers and even classmates. Students can create documents, spreadsheets, drawings, photos, presentations and even videos. Each item can be “shared” with a teacher prior to its due date. The teacher can then see the work on his or her own computer to review it or grade it for the student.

Due to supply concerns, we cannot issue a loaner chromebook to students who have forgotten their chromebook at home or failed to charge their chromebook the night before. There are desktop computers available in the library for usage with teacher permission. Please note, that continuous negligence to bring your chromebook to school charged will negatively affect your classroom grades.
Will students be allowed to download Apps and Extensions from the Chrome Web Store?
Students are restricted from adding Apps and Extensions. Approved Apps and Extensions are pushed out at the school level. Students are limited to just these Apps and Extensions.

Yes. The district can track information on what sites students were on, when they were on them, and how long they were on those sites.

We do our best to ensure each student's online experience is safe. Before each Chromebook device connects to the Internet, it must pass through district network firewalls and filters. This happens whether the device is browsing on campus on school-owned networks, or off campus using another WiFi router that is providing the Internet connection. Because of security settings built into the device, it must first route its Internet connection back through our district security settings (firewalls and filters) before any website or online resource is accessible. If your child is using the Chromebook at school, at home or at a public library, it will always pass through our web filtering and network firewall system before they can see or access web content. Our web filters are programmed to block inappropriate content as much as possible.

The district has access to student browsing history whether sites accessed are at school or occur at another location and are constantly monitored by AI. Inappropriate web browsing is a violation of the district Authorized Use Policy and may result in disciplinary action.
