Unit 1: Reality Check
Students will consider what’s real and what’s not.
Students will also reflect on how or whether we can tell the difference.
Students will conclude the unit by writing an informative essay on evaluating the truth of what we see and hear.
Unit 2: Take Control
Students will consider what prompts people to take control and what happens when they do.
Students will conclude the unit by writing an informative essay about overcoming obstacles.
Unit 3: The Terror and Wonder of Space
Students will consider what it might be like to explore space and reflect on the hazards and limits of exploration.
Students will conclude the unit by writing an argument taking a stance on space travel.
Unit 4: Inspired by Nature
Students will reflect on what it means to be in harmony with nature and will consider whether that’s important?
Students will conclude the unit by writing an argument in which they address the importance of having a connection to nature.
Students will also analyze an argument for clarity and determine the argument’s effectiveness.
Unit 5: Game On!
Students will consider attitudes about games and how people participate in and respond to them.
Students will conclude the unit by writing a short story about a character involved in playing an individual or team game or sport.
Unit 6: Change Agents
Students will think about people around them who work for change.
Students will reflect on whether they are capable of creating change themselves.
Students will conclude the unit by writing a research report about a change agent and their challenges and accomplishments.

Please note that each unit (for Studies and GT) is thematic and will include a diverse range of text analyses. We will explore poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and various forms of writing within each unit.
