Parents

Welcome!! I hope this information will help you throughout the school year. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to email me or call me. I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year!!

ID badges- Each student will be provided one ID Badge with a lanyard. It will be worn ALL DAY at school. It comes home with your child and returns every morning. A $5 fee will apply for students missing it. It might be a good idea to place it in your child's backpack every evening to ensure that it gets back to school each day.

Communication (Blue) Folders- Your child will have his/her communication folder in their backpack daily. Please use this folder for any notes for the teacher. The folder will go home daily and should be returned daily.

Parent Notes- All notes must have the following information: date, teacher's name, student's first and last name, and parent signature.

Changes in Transportation- If you wish for your child's transportation to be changed for a particular day, please send in a written note with the correct date, teacher's name, student's first and last name, and parent signature. If there is no written note received then your child will go home via his/her usual method of transportation. I cannot guarantee that I will see an email before dismissal. If you need to change your child’s transportation after they have left for school  please call the office to make transportation changes.

Absences- If your child is absent, please make sure to send in a note for your child's absence so it will not be unexcused.

Homework- Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes each night and practice their addition and subtraction facts to 10. Beyond that, there will be a monthly BINGO sheet sent home that is optional.

Early Dismissals- Please send a note in the morning if you plan to pick your child up early. There will be no early dismissals after 2:00 p.m. Your child must be present for at least 3.25 hours of instructional time to receive credit for the day.

Morning Routine: Students enter the building in the morning at the front entrance beginning at 7:00.  If your child eats breakfast, they will go directly there first.  The students will walk silently down to the hallway and go to the classroom with the sign that says "Morning Classroom" outside the door.  Students are dismissed at 7:30 to their own classroom for morning routine.

When they arrive in the classroom, children complete the following procedures:

Take out Blue Folder.

Hang book bag on hook.

Place the Blue Folder in basket.

Sit at assigned seat at table.

BVTV begins at 7:45.

The teacher takes attendance and begins the instructional day.

Restroom Breaks: Students may go to the restroom without asking permission. If they need to use the bathroom during an instructional time they might be asked if they can wait one moment. If not, they can go immediately. If they can wait, they will be able to go as soon as directions or instructions are finished. Students will be encouraged to use the restroom either before or after lunch.

Movement in the Classroom: Movement is incorporated into classroom instruction to keep students’ brains active and engaged. We will primarily use Go Noodle, which has a great variety of energizing and relaxing activities that are approximately 3 minutes each. Several activities are chosen throughout the day.

Lunch- Lunch money is collected in the cafeteria. It can be paid daily, weekly or monthly. Money may also be deposited into your child's lunch account through My School Bucks on the BV website. The lunch menu is subject to change. No "fast food" is allowed in the cafeteria. Students will be allowed to purchase extra snacks on Friday only. Please let him/her know if they are allowed that day to purchase. Again, you can send cash or make sure there is money on their lunch account through the website. If your child has any allergies, please provide a doctor’s note to the school.

Here is the list of snacks and cost:

Ice Cream - $1.50

Switch - $1.35

Water - $1.25

Rice Krispie Treats - $1.00

Chips - $0.85

Gummies - $0.85

Cookies - $0.65

*This list is from the 23-24 school year but I would assume the same snacks are available for the same prices.

Snack Time- The students are allowed to bring and eat one snack during snack time. Please do not send in items such as candy. Healthy snacks that don’t require utensils or peeling are best. Packing the snack separately from your child’s lunch helps cut down on confusion about what they are supposed to eat for snack.

Birthdays- Please do not send in birthday treats for your child. Every month, PTA will have a birthday celebration for students that have a birthday that month (June birthdays go in May and July birthday go in August).

Dress Code- Students are encouraged to wear comfortable, clean clothing which is suited for the weather. Shoes should be worn at all times. Caps and hats may not be worn in the building. Please make sure that all shirts or tops meet the waist band. Stomachs should be covered at all times. If children are sent to school in shorts, they should be long enough to completely cover the top of the legs to within two to three inches of the knee. The primary objective of Greenville County Schools (GCS) is to provide a World-Class instructional program and learning opportunity for every student. The personal appearance of every student is an important component of establishing a safe environment for optimal learning and respect for one another. Students are expected to dress in an appropriate manner while on school district property or representing the school. Personal appearance shall be such that it does not disrupt student work or school order, become distracting to other students, or violate health and safety guidelines.

Flip-flops are not permitted. No tank tops, spaghetti strap tops, halter-tops, or vests without shirts will be permitted. Shoulder straps have to be a minimum of l inch wide. No see-through or mesh garments may be worn.

Enrichment Activities- Buena Vista offers many enrichment classes. Please see which ones your child might be interested in by clicking on the following link. http://www.greenville.k12.sc.us/bvista/main.asp?titleid=EDPenrichment
