6th graders hear presentation from julie valentine Center

By Loren Humphries and Kinge Brannon

Oct. 28-29 the Julie Valentine Center taught 6th graders what sexual harassment is and how to stop it.

During the speech, the kids realized what sexual harassment is and what it isn’t. These kids also learned how to stop sexual harassment from happening to themselves, others, and how to help. One thing the students learned was if they felt like they were sexually harassed they could either tell a trusted adult, parent, or guardian.

These new middle schoolers learned what the difference was in sexual harassment was to just harassment. They learned about many different types of sexual harassment.

Lauren Wilhoit, 6th grade school counselor, said, “It is our hope that 6th grade students participate in this presentation and that they will be able to prevent harmful situations, and be able to recognize sexual harassment and know how to get help.”

fine arts center performs for 8th grade

By Marek Jopek and Grayson Shelton

On Oct. 29, 8th grade had the privilege of attending the Fine Arts Center performance in the League Academy auditorium to inform the 8th grade League Academy students what the different sections of the Fine Arts Center are.

In this presentation the Fine Arts Center gave perfect examples of the different departments of the Fine Arts Center including voice, creative writing, and jazz. Even though there are more sections of the Fine Arts Center, you can go to their website at http://www.fineartscenter.net/ to get more information.

Sarye Glenn, one of the Fine Arts Center performers, stated that the Fine Arts Center is “very free, super fun, and open.” All of the performances showed the individual talents of the Fine Arts Center. The Fine Arts Center in conclusion is a good place for anyone who has a drive for music, singing, and just outright talent. 8th graders should for sure check the Fine Arts Center out.

League academy students PARTICIPATE in basketball tryouts

By Jack Hinds and Francis Baxley

Basketball season is about to start. Over the past week the tryouts have been going on. At 9:00 p.m. tonight, Coach Powell (the boys basketball coach) will post the final results for who has made the team.

On Oct, 31 Powell decided that there would be no cuts until he is sure who needs to be on the team. Some of the drills that Powell has been running with the 7th and 8th graders are stretches that include high knees, jogs, and sprints. Some of the other drills that are run during tryouts are three on three, two on two, and layup drills such as first to 100 and just playing, running down the court, and shooting a layup or jumpshot. Coming from a 7th grade student, Zakai Patterson,” I’m pretty nervous, but hopefully I can do my best and make the team.”

Basketball tryouts end today, Nov. 1, and all of the players have high hopes. Coach Powell made final cut Nov, 1 and only 3 7th graders made the team. The rest of the team is 8th graders. The team has a total of 15 people.

Yearbook club turns in first deadline

By Lilybelle Butler

Yearbook club had to get all their pages ready to turn into Ms.Franke, and all the students in the club had to turn in at least one spread. The students all together have already finished ⅓ of the whole yearbook. All the students in the yearbook club have been working as much as possible.

One of their tasks was to collect pictures from eighth graders. They needed baby pictures, maybe even toddler pictures so they could show how much they have changed and improved. They have some of the same assignments as last year's yearbook club, although they have changed many things about the yearbook.

The spreads that the students have to turn are at two pages per spread. Of course, all the students had the option to work on more than one spread. Most of the students in the class were given the option to work with one other partner, meaning that they could work together to get the deadline turned in on time.

Ralph breaks the internet is released into theaters

By: Will Maness and Lilybelle Butler

The Disney sequel, Ralph breaks the internet, was released November 21st. The producer, Clark Spencer , helped produce the Disney film. This movie included lots of easter eggs and references. These include the Oh my Disney website, Youtube, princesses, Ebay, and Star Wars.

Ralph breaks the internet is about two friends and video game characters, Ralph and Vanellope, going into the internet. “It was hugely challenging when we first came up with the idea of the internet,” Phil Johnston says. “It’s like saying we’re going to do a movie about New York City! ‘Cool!’ The internet seemed like one big city, with all the different people driving to their destinations.

Vanellope’s game, Sugar Rush, loses the steering wheel so the owner of the arcade is going to sell it for parts. Ralph and Vanellope decide to go into the internet to find a new wheel on Ebay so Vanellope and all of the other Sugar Rush characters can have a home. While in the internet Vanellope found a new racing game, Slaughter Race, and she ended up wanting to stay. Ralph watched as she told the main character of the game, Shank, about how she didn’t want to go back. Ralph went to a virus dealer in the dark web and released it into Slaughter Race. The virus copied the insecurities of the game and pasted them all around, recognizing Vanellope’s glitch it pasted that around the game instead. The game started to reboot and Vanellope found out that it was Ralph who released the virus. While the game was rebooting the virus got out of Slaughter Race and copied Ralph’s insecurities. Then it pasted Ralph all over the internet. The regular Ralph, Vanellope, and the ralph viruses get in a big fight. Eventually Vanellope decides to stay in Slaughter Race and Ralph visits her every once in awhile.

The movie was very fun and enjoyable to watch. It had very emotional parts every now and then and it wasn’t completely overwhelming with sad scenes. There were almost no bad parts throughout the whole movie, except for the fact that there was some laziness in the creation of the people on the websites.
