6th Grade Math Syllabus 2026-27
Course Description: This standards-based sixth-grade course is designed to help students begin the transition from arithmetic to algebraic thinking. It includes: Concepts, operations, and problems solving with decimals, fractions, and percents in addition to an introduction to integers and ratios. Students will develop algebraic thinking through the investigation of patterns, the use of simple equations and inequalities to represent relationships, and the use of tables and graphs to solve problems. Throughout the course there is an emphasis on the process of: Problem-solving, reasoning, communication, representations, and connections. To supplement the students learning we will be using the on-line math programs IXL and Aleks. IXL and Aleks are targeted tools offering individual learning for students, tailored to meet their Math level. These platforms are personalized digital learning programs that covers K-12 curriculum. Students using these curriculum supports have accesses to real-time diagnostics, and individualized guidance from educators.Educators use these tools to help students target specific learning goals by offering recommendations to help support teaching and learning with a very focused outcome. The IXL program is also used to support personal IEP learning plans.Learning Objective: Students will be able to solve mathematical problems involving ratios, expressions, equations, and geometry using appropriate strategies and mathematical reasoning.
