6th-7th Grade Science Syllabus 2026-27
Science is the study of the universe and all of its contained phenomena. Engineering is the way we fulfill human needs and solve problems. These practices represent the skills and knowledge necessary for scientists and engineers to accomplish what they do. Scientific practices start with questioning that leads to inquiry, seeking evidence to ultimately construct explanations and develop models that can be used to best describe an predict how and why natural phenomena occur. 6th-7th Course Description: The focus for science in sixth-seventh grade is to provide students with inquiry based experiences that develop science concepts in the following areas: Structures, Processes and Response of Plants-structure and function of plants; Structures, Processes and Responses of Animals-structure and function of animals; Earth's Atmosphere and Weather-atmospheric properties and processes; and, Conservation of Energy-properties of energy, work, and conservation of energy.
Learning Objectives: Throughout the course, students will be able to explain scientific concepts using scientific inquiry, investigation, data collection, and evidence-based reasoning to understand natural phenomena and solve scientific problems. Students will communicate their findings using appropriate scientific vocabulary, models, observations, and explanations.
