All Students in Ms. Young’s class will:
Respect themselves and others.
Be in class on time.
Bring all necessary materials to class.
Focus on class assignments at all times.
Follow the rules and regulations listed in the student handbook.
Failure to meet your responsibilities, as a member of this class, will result in:
1. A warning (private student conference)
2. Parent contact.
3. Referral to the office/Parent contact.
Students have 5 minutes from the start of class to be in the classroom and must stay for the entire Google Meet.
Students must sit up with the camera on.
Students must have their full faces visible on the camera screen.
Camera screens must be completely illuminated to make the student's face visible.
LIVE Meet Time is a time for students to ask questions, and also when I will review the weekly agenda.
The English Department grading policy is as follows:
Major grades 60% unit test, book reports, and projects
Minors grades 40% grammar work, daily work, quizzes
For assignments to be graded, they must be submitted by the student. Completed assignments that are not submitted will receive a zero in the grade book.
Late points will be based on the due date of the assignment and when it is submitted by the student.
Cheating receives a zero. Cheating involves giving or receiving answers when your work is supposed to be your own. Plagiarism is also cheating. Cheating will result in a parent conference as well as an automatic zero for all students involved.
Plagiarism is also cheating. Plagiarism, by definition, is the act of taking someone else's ideas, words, or work and presenting them as your own without proper attribution. It's a form of cheating that involves copying and pasting from sources, paraphrasing without giving credit, submitting someone else's work as your own, and failing to acknowledge or cite source material. (University of Oxford.)
Plagiarism can also include AI-generated work, unauthorized collaboration between students, failure to properly attribute assistance received, and failure to adhere to regulations on group work projects.
Plagiarized work will not be accepted and will result in a zero for the assignment.

Every student is provided a weekly agenda in Google Classroom and a class calendar on my webpage, which displays all assignments, assessments, and homework. Assignments are to be handed in on the due date. All work that is not submitted on time will be considered late and will receive a grade of zero in the grade book. A late assignment may be turned in, but it will carry a late
Work assigned is expected to be completed by the due date. All assignments are due on Mondays
at 11:59. These are hard deadlines, as students will be aware of the due dates when the
assignments are given.
If a student is absent, it is the student's responsibility to make up all missed work.
It remains the student's responsibility to submit work on time, even if it is late.
A 10-point deduction will be applied per day for late work up to five days, resulting in a
maximum penalty of 50 points.
Assignments submitted later than 5 days before the end of the quarter will have the Greenville
County Schools’ grade floor applied (NHI), which equals a 50 grade.
Students/Parents will need to communicate with the teacher(s) when a late assignment is
submitted.
Students will have five days to make up quizzes and tests.
Teachers will handle unique situations on a case-by-case basis and have the autonomy to determine whether they will accept work beyond the five days for credit.
Students may retake/redo one Major assignment and three Minor Assignments for each quarter in each subject except Reading. These assignments must be submitted no later than five school days before the end of the quarter.
Students may NOT request a redo/retake on work submitted late.
Only the highest score will be counted, not an average of the two assessments. A grade should
represent the most current understanding of the material.
Reading Tests are meant to assess a student’s current level of understanding, so retakes will NOT
be allowed.
To request a redo or retake, your grade must be 59 or below.
Students must submit a Google Form that will be provided by each teacher to request a
Redo/Retake of one MAJOR assignment and three MINOR assignments each quarter,
acknowledging the following:
Students must understand that it is their responsibility to meet with the teacher to complete
preparation for this retake.
The highest score will be recorded in Backpack/PowerSchool.
The retake must be submitted by the last day of the grading period or by the date and time grades are due, whichever comes first.
This is a synchronous class, which means students are expected to have their faces visible on camera and actively engage in class discussions. When asked a question by the teacher, students are expected to turn on the microphone and verbally respond.
The teacher removes the student from Google Meet, marks the student absent in PowerSchool,
and notifies the Parent and Administrator.
