Attendance &
Policies
Attendance Policy
Students are expected to be logged into our classroom Google Meet at 7:45 am with cameras on.
Students are counted present when they are present in a Google Meet for the entire time of instruction and are expected to have their cameras on when in class.
When taking any major assessment, students’ faces must be clearly seen for the entire time to ensure the integrity of the assessment.
Make Up Work Policy
Absent students are responsible for assignments and material covered in class while absent.
Full credit will be given for completed work that satisfies the conditions.
Make up work missed during excused absences shall be completed at the earliest time possible but should not exceed five (5) school days after the student returns to school.
The following is a guideline regarding the timeframe in which makeup work should be completed.
1 day absence - day following return to school
2 day absence - 2 days after return to school
3 day absence - 3 days after return to school
4 day absence - 4 days after return to school
5 day absence - 5 days after return to school
Late Work Policy
Work assigned for the classroom is critical in helping students learn and understand concepts taught during the week. The expectation is that students will complete work when it is assigned.
Work assigned is expected to be completed by the assigned due date.
It remains the responsibility of the student to turn in work even if it is late.
The student will have up to 5 days from the due date to complete late or missing work.
Students will have 5 days to make up all missing major assignments, including projects, quizzes, and tests.
Any missed assignments given near the end of a grading period need to be made up before the end of the grading period.
Any work not turned in by the end of day 5 will have the Greenville County Schools’ grade floor applied (NHI), which equals a 50 as a grade.
For each day the assignment is late, starting on the 6th day, 10 points (a letter grade), will be deducted from the final grade each day the assignment is late.
Students/Parents will need to communicate with the teacher(s) when a late assignment is submitted.
Teachers will handle unique situations on a case-by-case basis, and have the autonomy to determine whether they will accept work beyond the 5 days for credit.
All minor assignments (classwork, quizzes) are expected to be completed by the assigned due date.
Any major assignments (tests) must be completed by the assigned due date.
Per the district policy, tests and quizzes must be taken during a live meet. If a test or quiz is missed, it is the student’s responsibility to schedule a time to make up with the teacher.
Any work not turned in when due, will be given a NHI (not handed in) code in Backpack.
Please try to let me know ahead of time if your child will be absent.
Redo and Retake Policy
Everyone makes mistakes, and we realize that academics are no different. When a student gets an opportunity to redo an assignment, it is a chance to correct mistakes that have been made.
Students will have the opportunity to redo ONE minor grade (classwork, quiz) per subject each quarter, per teacher discretion and parent/student request.
Students may NOT request a redo/retake on work turned in late.
Students must submit their request for a redo/retake within one school week of the graded assessment being returned.
Students are also allowed to request the opportunity to retake ONE major grade per quarter.
Students may only retake a major assignment when they have earned less than a 70.
Students will need to retake the assessment prior to the next unit test or within ten (10) school days from the date the failed assessment was originally returned to the student.
Before an assessment is redone/retaken, students must complete a relearning opportunity as determined by the teacher and agreed upon through a documented discussion between the teacher, student, and/or guardian. Relearning opportunities may include independent learning tasks, review activities, Google Meet with a teacher for remediation, or other activities deemed appropriate by the teacher.
The student must have all assignments completed and turned in for that subject prior to retaking the test.
The re-test may be different from the original, but will cover the same material.
Only the score of the retake will count; NOT an average of the initial assessment. The retake score is the new score. A grade should represent the most current understanding of the material.
If a student fails a test due to cheating, the student loses the opportunity to retake the test.
Unique situations will be considered.
