The magnet coordinator is not responsible for setting up your magnet internship.

December 4, 2023 - January 19, 2024 - Spring Internships
March 1 - April 5, 2024 - Summer Internships
MAGNET INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
MAGNET STUDENTS
Must complete a 40-hour magnet internship directly related to their magnet focus area(s).
Must immediately contact the magnet coordinator if there are any issues with the magnet internship and its completion.
Must follow all directions for the documentation of their magnet internship.
Must use their school email address when communicating with the magnet coordinator during the course of their magnet internship.
Must understand that the magnet coordinator will not accept typed or electronic signatures on any forms.
Must complete all documentation of their magnet internship by the listed due dates.
Must include all documentation of their magnet internship in a three-prong poly folder (NO BINDERS).
Must personally hand the three-prong poly folder which includes all documentation of their magnet internship to the magnet coordinator by winter break of their senior year.
Must receive a "passing" grade on their magnet internship.
Must understand that no extensions will be granted by the magnet coordinator and their inability to submit all documentation related to their magnet internship by the listed due dates will affect their ability to graduate with magnet distinction.
Please follow each of these steps as outlined below for successful completion of your magnet internship:
1. Magnet Internship Intent
Magnet student must declare his/her intent to complete a magnet internship to the magnet coordinator via school email by the due date.
After receiving the magnet student's declaration of intent, the magnet coordinator will share the magnet internship packet with the magnet student via email.
Due Date: June 30
2. Magnet Internship Proposal
Magnet student must submit a proposal for a magnet internship directly related to his/her magnet focus area(s) to the magnet coordinator via school email by the due date.
The magnet coordinator must approve the magnet internship proposal prior to the start of the magnet internship.
The magnet internship proposal must clearly state why the magnet student wants to pursue the magnet internship and how the magnet internship is directly related to his/her magnet focus area(s).
Magnet student must perform more than just clerical tasks.
If the magnet student fails to submit a magnet internship proposal by the due date and have it approved by the magnet coordinator prior to the start of the magnet internship, then the magnet coordinator automatically will assign a "failing grade" on the magnet internship.
Due Date: August 31
3. Magnet Internship Statements
Magnet student must sign and date the student statement in blue/black ink.
Parent/Guardian must sign and date the parent/guardian statement in blue/black ink.
Mentor must sign and date the mentor statement in blue/black ink.
Magnet student must submit the magnet internship statements to the magnet coordinator via school email by the due date.
Due Date: September 30
4. Magnet Internship Commencement
Magnet student must start their magnet internship by September 30.
5. Magnet Internship Learning Contract
Magnet student must work with his/her mentor to establish his/her duties/responsibilities and objectives for the magnet internship prior to its commencement.
Due Date: Winter Break of Senior Year
6. Magnet Internship Mentor Evaluation Part 1
Mentor must evaluate the magnet student on employability attributes at the midpoint and end of the magnet internship.
Mentor must discuss each evaluation with the magnet student.
Due Date: Winter Break of Senior Year
7. Magnet Internship Mentor Evaluation Part 2
Mentor must evaluate the magnet student on the "skills magnet student will acquire" stated in the learning contract for "magnet internship objectives" at the midpoint and end of the magnet internship.
Mentor must discuss each evaluation with the magnet student.
Due Date: Winter Break of Senior Year
8. Magnet Internship Time Sheet
Magnet student must record the time that he/she met with his/her mentor in the workplace.
Magnet student must document that he/she has completed 40 hours for the magnet internship.
Mentor must confirm the time the magnet student met with him/her each week with his/her initials.
Due Date: Winter Break of Senior Year
9. Magnet Internship Journal Entries
Magnet student must reflect on his/her meetings with his/her mentor.
Magnet student must write at least 6 quality sentences for each journal entry.
Magnet student must have a total of 10 journal entries for his/her magnet internship.
Due Date: Winter Break of Senior Year
10. Magnet Internship Student Evaluation
Magnet student must reflect on his/her magnet internship by responding to a series of questions.
Magnet student must evaluate his/her mentor on the stated qualities.
The magnet coordinator will not share the magnet student's responses with the mentor.
Due Date: Winter Break of Senior Year
11. Magnet Internship Mentor Thank You E-mail
Magnet student must use the stated guidelines to compose and then send a "thank you" email to his/her mentor.
Magnet student must copy the magnet coordinator on the "thank you" e-mail.
